    Singer/songwriter Fred Hellerman is born in New York City. He joins The Weavers, a folk act that's blacklisted in the Communist scare of the 1950s. Hellerman co-writes several country hits: Jimmie Rodgers' "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine," Billy Grammer's "Gotta Travel On" and Don Williams' "I'm Just A Country Boy"

    Ed Urick is born in Malden, Massachusetts. He joins three siblings to form The Ames Brothers, earning numerous hits, including the 1956 release "It Only Hurts For A Little While." Margo Smith turns the song into a country success in 1978
