    Jim Reeves and Abbott Records chief Fabor Robison tangle with a handgun in a Los Angeles recording studio, with Reeves ultimately demanding his release from the label. Nearly three weeks later, Abbott announces Reeves is leaving

    Fabor Robison announces he's given Jim Reeves his release from Abbott Records in exchange for all of Reeves' future Abbott royalties. The announcement comes not quite three weeks after the two argued in the recording studio with a handgun

    Coral Records hires disc jockey Alan Freed to run the label's A&R department. At the time, The McGuire Sisters have a #1 pop hit for the label with a song that lists Freed as a co-writer, "Sincerely," also a future country hit for The Forester Sisters

    Jim Reeves signs his first RCA Records contract

    Colonel Tom Parker receives a telegram from RCA saying the label will pay no more than $25,000 to buy out Elvis Presley's contract from Sun. Sun owner Sam Phillips holds out for $35,000
    Nov 21, 1955
    In a deal engineered by Colonel Tom Parker, RCA Records buys Elvis Presley's contract and master tapes from Sam Phillips' Sun Records for $35,000. The papers are signed at the Sun Recording Studio in Memphis

    Capitol Records opens its new Hollywood headquarters, the world's first round office building, at the corner of Hollywood & Vine. Among the artists who record in the studio: Buck Owens, Glen Campbell, Dwight Yoakam and Merle Haggard

    Harry, Abe and Jack Warner sell Warner Bros. Pictures for $22 million. The next day, Jack Warner buys it back. Within two years, the company adds a record label, eventually associated with Randy Travis, Hank Williams Jr. and Faith Hill
