Steel guitarist Leon McAuliffe leaves The Light Crust Doughboys to join Bob Wills' Texas Playboys in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the process, he gets a raise from less than $10-a-week to $30. On KVOO that night, McAuliffe debuts "Steel Guitar Rag"

With World War II raging, Tommy Duncan, lead singer for Bob Wills' Texas Playboys, tells Tulsa's KVOO listeners goodbye and joins the Army. Wills subsequently replaces Duncan with Leon Huff
