    Joe Bonsall is born in Philadelphia. In 1973, the ex-gang member becomes a tenor singer in the gospel quartet The Oak Ridge Boys, who soon shift into country music, using him as a lead voice on such hits as "Elvira," "Bobbie Sue" and "Love Song." The Oaks join the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015

    When The Oak Ridge Quartet plays Evansville, Indiana, concert-goer Minnie Huff gives the band a wallet-size picture of Jesus and writes "Oak Ridge Boys" on the back. The Quartet later adopts The Oak Ridge Boys as its official name

    Steve Sanders is born in Richland, Georgia. In 1987, he replaces William Lee Golden in The Oak Ridge Boys, taking the soulful lead on such singles as "Gonna Take A Lot Of River" and "Beyond Those Years" prior to Golden's return in 1995
